Meeting for Group 17

Hey groupie,

It's time for us to meet up again.
We have an assignment due next friday ( 11/7 ) 5pm, so we need to meet up to get them done.

What we need to do for this assignment is:
Outline of film and presentation
-90s public service announcement
-20 slides Pecha Kucha style report.

Our TOPIC is Food Manufacturing
1)Some of you said that this topic is too broad, we need to narrow it down.
So please propose ideas of 'subtopic' in food manufacturing
For example:
what kind of food, like beer, bread, cereals etc OR what kind of process, like safety, hygiene, optimization, health etc

2)Please post the day and time you're available for meeting

3)If you have time, please think on how we want our presentation to be and also the content of our video

**Please post the task #1, 2 before Sunday (tomorrow) 10pm. Thank you^^

Have a blissful weekend

Chemical Engineering in the food-manufacturing field is huge on several levels.

Chemicals are the premier method of cleaning food processing equipment to date, so much in fact that companies have created chemical trees so workers can quickly determine which chemicals would be best for each situation that workers would encounter within the plant.

Chemical engineering is also critical in the creation of foods, so that they remain convenient and tasteful while reducing costs for the company.

As the industry continues to develop and demand for better quality food that can retain the same level of convenience for the consumer rises, companies are seeking non-heat methods of achieving "microbial and enzymatic inactivation," one of which is a tasteless chemical that would theoretically harm the bacteria while leaving the food untouched.

The presence of chemical engineering within the food industry can seen from every step of production and provides the chemical engineers of today and tomorrow employed.

So I think this is long enough, three big topics with and intro and conclusion, Felice you said it just had to be a paragraph and the links you gave me were... unhelpful.

Chemcal engineering

So it looks like I'm stuck with doing Chemical Engineering, I've found http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qa5350/is_200303/ai_n21327362
so thats what I'm gonna focus on.

INTRODUCTION

TOPIC: Food Manufacturing Industry

“We are what we eat”

During the 21st century, our eating habits have changed dramatically due to the prevalence of health awareness. In the older days, especially immediate aftermath of World War II, food was simply a source of energy. Today, it is not only an energy source, but it also a sensory, cultural and social phenomenon. Besides providing enjoyment, we now want our food to enhance our health and well-being. Meanwhile, we want our food to be quick and convenient to prepare as many of us are no longer willing to spend scarce leisure time preparing elaborate meals. Ultimately, we expect our food to be reasonably priced. In short, our food has to be tasty, convenient to be prepared, safe, healthy, hygienic and cheap.

Narrow the topic

Hey groupie,

After doing some research, I want to narrow down our topic FOOD MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY, focus on the SAFETY / QUALITY / HYGIENE and CHEAP (guess this is will help in writing the motivation - why quality and price is important in this industry and for the principle used by chemical engineer - optimization and hygiene)

Topic Assignment

If Felice is doing introduction, I'll do motivation, and summary if everyone can post their topics.

Let's work on the topic

Hey guys,

I'm sorry that I didn't turn up for the meeting today. As we have decided the topic on the first meeting - Food process, are we still going to use that, or you guys have new idea (people who have shown up in the meeting today)?

If we are going to stick to this topic FOOD PROCESS, we shall start working on this:

INTRODUCTION - what is this product process or issue

MOTIVATION - why this product or area is important

CHEMICAL ENGINEERING - what chemical engineering principles are applied, how they are applied and what role to chemical engineers play in this product or process

SUMMARY - summary of above

REFERENCES - you should include at least 3 non-web references

My suggestion is each one of us working on one section as we have 4 members here. And each one of us come out with 1 non-web references. Sounds good?

I'm sorry that I'm not good at english, so can anyone of you do the summary? I'll do INTRODUCTION. ( please choose from the remaining sections - motivation, chemical engineering and summary and inform others on this blog saying that this section has been taken )

Groupie, if possible, those who work on introduction, motivation, and chemical engineering + references can get them done by 10pm tonight so that the one who works on summary has more time to do his/her part.

Lastly, the one who works on summary will be posting our career report up to T-Square.
p/s: please let us know once you have submitted the assignment, so that everyone can have a blissful weekend ^.^

(Sorry, i'm not trying to be bossy here, but the assignment is due tomorrow, so we need to get things done tonight as I won't at Tech tomorrow)

THANK YOU!!!

p/s: please post your essay here. AND check this blog REGULARLY until 5pm tomorrow
